Joining the NANRO USA Fellowship, Chef Fariyal Abdullahi graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and trained under Chefs René Redzepi and Dan Giusti at the Michelin-starred Noma in Copenhagen, then spent time as a culinary manager across five Hillstone Restaurant Group locations before Chef Marcus Samuelsson called her to lead Hav & Mar — the seafood-focused fine-dining room they opened together in Chelsea, New York, in 2022. She is a James Beard Award nominee.
She brings to Hav & Mar the Ethiopian heritage she shares with the restaurant's owner, while placing environmental sustainability and the education of her team at the very center of how she leads. It is that same practice she carries into her time in Korea as a NANRO USA Fellow.
