Nanro Foundation announced on April 4 that it will hold NANRO INSIGHT — its global symposium on Korean cuisine — over two days, April 29–30, at Leeum Museum of Art in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

Nanro is a non-profit foundation led by Chef Choi Jung-yoon, head chef of Sempio’s Woorimat Research Center and vice-chair for Korea and China of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Its members — hansik chefs, restaurant owners, and specialists in food, traditional liquors and the arts — meet to research hansik culture and discuss the industry’s development.

NANRO INSIGHT will examine how hansik can succeed in the global market. Under the theme “The Future of Gastronomy: A Conversation on Hansik,” participants will discuss the potential for hansik’s global growth.

The inaugural edition will bring together top chefs and hansik figures from Korea and abroad. Confirmed international guests include Chef Virgilio Martínez, executive chef of Central in Peru; Chef Oriol Castro, executive chef of Spain’s Disfrutar; and Simon Kim, principal of the U.S. restaurant COTE. From Korea, Chef Cho Eun-hee and Chef Park Sung-bae of Onjium and Park Soo-kyung of Geumdwaeji Sikdang (Golden Pig BBQ) will attend.

Prominent figures from academia, industry and the arts will also join. Speakers include keynote presenter Prof. Jeong Jae-seung of KAIST (Department of Bio and Brain Engineering); Park Young-hoon, head of The Kit (behind the “Korean Englishman” YouTube channel); and author Song Kil-young.
